This damn thing is getting me upset now... How do I remove a ign. switch from a column that does NOT have tilt? Check the pics below to see how far I got...

Please guys... I am doing this freaking job as a favor for my neighbor who is in a bit of a bind. Now I have imobilized their car for them too :)

All ideas welcome!

My books says to lower the steering column and the switch is mounted in the top of the column jacket, inside the channel section of the brake pedal support. Then set the switch in the lock position and remove the two mounting scews and detach the switch. This is for 1971 and later model ignition swiches. To put the swich in the lock position you will see some sort of a sliding pin?? (hard to make out the picture) you need to locate it about middle of the slide.

I hope this helps, I have never done this so I thought I`d look at the books for you...sounds like it is a little bit involved though.

Oh boy
YA took it down way to far.
I take it you are taking the lock cylinder out.
That recess that sorta looks like a big L below the cyliner has a bit of flashing that you can break out with a small screwdriver.
Turn the key to the on position and depress the tang and tyhe cylinder will slide out.
If you have lost the key then take it to a lock smith.
I have drilled them out before but it is worth it to spend the $40 on the locksmith.
Hope that helps.

Yup the key is lost...
Damn...
I took it down so far, because I wondered if the pin that held it in might be on the back side of the collar after I couldn't find one on the front.

I guess I will have to tell her to take it to the lock smith then... Thanks for all the help POWERMAD.

No sweat bud.
It's a little tricky getting the sector to line back up with the rack, it just takes a little patience.
See ya
