I just installed new gears for the first time and would like input on how the patterns look.

Backlash on the front is 0.010, the rear is 0.008. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks guys.

what axles ?

and whats spec for b/s on the one in .010 bl . sounds little high.

and as the gears break in pattern will get longer. so the second one looks o.k. but i think should be doen just a hair to make room for breakin.

but what do i know i dont realy do gears.

The front is a 10 bolt and the rear is a 14 bsf. Both are 4.56 gears, and specs with the gears called for .008 - .012 backlash.

Everything I have seen says .007-.010 is where you want to be at on backlash.

The front looks a little low on the drive side but sometimes you cant get them perfect with every set of gears.

I just did mine also....back SF axle and front 10 bolt I went with 5.13s

Little bit bigger pic?

you can email them to me too. Pretty sure my e mail is in my contact info.

Those look fine from what I can see. But I like a little closer view

Backlash is fine, within specs is fine. And you are right on your specs ( going off memory here)

They both look good from your pic, the reason I would like to see a bit bigger pic is I think the front might be a touch deep. But very close. Can't tell from the angle and size of the pic.

When we installed gears at the shop we applied some pre-load to them by either lightly pressing on the brakes if the axle is together, or by pressing on the gear with a rag while it turns if the axle was apart. If your backlash is in spec, doing that gives a better pattern to read.

I thought that .008 - .012 seemed a little much according to what I had read elsewhere, but that's what the gear manufacturer (Motive Gear) called for.
