I tuned up my '85 K30 today and again, 4 plug wires were burned thru from resting on the header tubes. I've got those kevlar sleeves and 3 of them burned holes in them. So I moved them to the opposite side and put in new plugs and wires.

What a difference that made once again. So smooth and strong.

My big question now is who makes a 90 degree plug boot at the plug end on BBC's? Mine are the common straight boot and I've probably gone thru around 10 sets of wires in the 14 years I've owned this truck and put on around 35K since I bought it. Thats too many wires in that short of mileage and time.

I need 90 degree boots so they clear the headers. I'm not looking forward to using the kevlar boots again, so want something that will clear, period.

No, I don't want high dollar wires either. And I don't want cut-to-fit. I want pre-cut wires ready to push on and go.

If you don't mind a little extra work get a cut to fit kit from Taylor or MSD. You can get any combination of ends for the wire set.

Jegs/Summit

My 454 has some cheap wires on it that have 90 degree plug ends, so any parts store should have something. Although, the 90 degree is almost too much, a 45 degree would be better.

Funny thing about headers. I just had to put 2 new wires on this afternoon from burning (my problem wires are 6&8), had the Kevlar sleeves also. Problem is they are only 6" long they need to be at least 8" proly more like 12". The wires for the SBC have a 90 boot for the plug, should work on a BB, RIGHT? I just bought a 2nd set of sleeves and doubled them up on those 2 wires . We will see.

Surprise! #6 is the problem wire on mine, too. The boot is the worst burned of all. All of the wires on the odd/drivers side are good with no burns. Everything is burned on the even side.

I checked in Summit and they offer some 90, 135, and 180 boots, so it looks like I need the 135's. Just don't like the prices of them when I just want wires good enough to do the job.
