what year did gm ditch the points type ignition?

around the mid 70's, my 74 came stock with points, i belive HEI was a option at that time

HEI was optional in some 1974 trucks..1975 GM went to HEI in all cars and trucks in the USA..however,I've seen Canadian GM trucks with points up until the mid 80's several times when I worked the parts counters!..
I'd tell the guy "your truck doesn't have points if its an 82,unless someone put an older distributor and coil in it.".
---and the owner proceeded to drag me out in the parking lot,and show me is factory bought by him ,one owner truck--WITH POINTS!
..I noticed no EGR valve or the other usual emission plumbing too!.looked like a 1970 motor and intake!..
That's when I started saying "Unless it was built in CANADA!..and I'd look for the maple leaf on the door jamb!..
