A buddy of mine just got a jeep. Well he has a 2001 Polaris Magnum 4 Wheeler. I bought it from him.

It's kind of a build a bumper for my Jeep couple other things, build a cage for it and we will see if you owe me anything for the 4 Wheeler.

Anyway it's got a plow for it. A
That's the reason for getting it. Basixly how I get everything else just a ton of tradework.

So anyone got one? Things to look out for?

Gonna sell the big wheels and tires. Just gotta figure out how much some steel ones and normal size tires are gonna cost. And how much the big ones are worth.

Everything seems to work but I'm not very versed in ATVs.

Did I do alright?

Looks like my grandpas sportsman 500. Great quad, we have beat the $hit out of it through the years. Only real things to die were the cvs in the axles. You will know when they go, when you see the balls laying on the garage floor :D

I kinda dig the wheels and tires. Unless you can make money on them after getting steel ones

Well it's only a 500 and it feels like a 350 or even a 250. Plus they rub. Everywhere. Plus I don't wanna put extra strain on the drivetrain.

I have had people tell me the wheel tire combo is worth anything from 700 to a grand. So even 600 will get me steel wheels and decent tires. But we shall see

Id trade them off then. Maybe its just the pic but they didnt look oversized.

My biggest concern is...

Can you pop a wheelie on it? :D

OK so it's not a Magnum.......maybe. Magnums had solid rear axles.

This is IRS. It's a 500 and liquid cooled

And the tires are only an inch taller than stock so they are staying.

My backyard is a four wheeler racetrack now

Not a 2001 Polaris Magnum.

I am pretty sure it's a 1997 Polaris xplorer 500.

No difference too me really just need to know what it is to order parts when the time comes

Looks like fun. I still love my king quad despite it being a little 300. It is a tank. Plowing the drive with a quad is fun, but a pain in the ass. Think i'm gonna switch to a 8 foot plow for my truck next year. Warm truck is better than -20 in a snow suit.

So I never realized how much I would use a four wheeler.

Some of you guys know I have health issues. Those that don't do now.

Man moving stuff outside. Pulling branches. Even running back and forth between the front yard and backyard.

This thing has really allowed me to do way more than before.

I kind of was hesitant to get this thing. My wife was not. She is the smart one obviously.

Keeping the wheels and tires.

Gotta do a little work on it before winter.

But I am seriously stoked with this thing.

Only thing I know with the Polaris's is DONT get the belt wet lol. You'll never be seat deep in water I'm guessing so probably never will... But I've burned the belt off of one driving in flood waters and it melted a hole in the belt cover. Totally misusing it so not the machines fault. And I don't know if that model has wires running to each front wheel or not... But Polaris has used an electric operated 4x4 system that locks it in at the hub on older models like the scrambler. If it has that system and ever starts kicking out of 4x4 randomly, change your battery. It's the first indication that the batt is dying. Pretty much a die-hard machine for the most part.

I've got a 1995 Magnum 425 I've had for about 10 years.
Use it around the property for just about everything, even getting the mail sometimes.

Had to put a cam in it when I first got it, apparently they had problems with them on the 425's. The replacement /upgrade was the 500 sportsman cam.

Stator went bad at one point, no big deal.

The on demand 4 wheel drive I would assume is the same. Uses a sealed electromagnet incorporated to the spindle housing which actuates a contraption of a housing, rollers and springs inside hub that connects the axles and hubs together by centrifical force. Hence on demand.
They are lubricated by F trans fluid in the hubs. Something to check.

Mine were packed with bearing grease by the PO. Went thru and corrected all. Obviously mine wasn't working.

Overall very good machine.
