Just curious to see what other members have come across for some of the older blazers in use with, or retired from public safety servcie. Most of the ones I see are old military blazers, although I have seen a few customized civilian trucks, that have been built-up pretty good. Not all that uncommon to see some of the older suburbans used as ALS vehcicles. Alot of Fire department's over the years have replaced thier old Power Wagons with the Military Blazers they got through the Government's DRMO program (Free!). I added a couple of photos of some different ones I came across

Mine was one of 6 that were bought from a Knoxville Police Department auction (Knoxville, TN).

They generally only used them during inclement weather or times when 4x4 was needed to get somewhere. As a result, it only had 101,000 miles on it when I bought it in 2002. That averages out to 6312 miles a year. Not bad for a then-16-year-old truck!

It's just white. It was when I got it, but I'm sure it had decals on it at one point. Not sure about a light bar. There's no holes from mounting one if it did. The radio handset's clip is still on the dash, and there are 4 holes near the transfer case shifter where the radio once was.

Oh yeah, it wasn't a CUCV-type. It was just a bare-bones 5.0L Custom Deluxe with A/C and AM/FM...3.08 gears, vinyl seats and a rubber floor. And gauges, not idiot lights...

Fire department up here had a series of K5's. (Learned this from a fireman who was talking to me over the diesel pump one time.)

First they had a 70's K5 with the full removable top (he didn't specify the years) but they beat and neglected it into the ground.

Then they had a 80's civilian K5 but they proceeded to destroy it through neglect and abuse again.

Then they got a M1009 and yep, they destroyed it too.

Now they have two 00-06 body style Suburbans and yep, they always look dirty and neglected when I see them.

Mine is an Oregon Department of Natural Resources (DNR) ranger Blazer. The previous owner bought it at auction and towed a boat behind it for 8 years. I've had it for 5. It still has the working but stripped out hand lights like a cop car. In the right light I can see the RANGER word on the fenders where they took off the tape. You can also see the cutouts in the grille where they had the flashing lights.

That truck is so full of holes for mounting shotgun racks, radios, etc.

All I ever see on this side of the river is Fords  The county still has a few Bronco's even. My impression is they don't retire a vehicle till the wheels fall off :doah:

Pssssst...check his sig...that's the '90. WT grille option.

My burban used to be a Westcliffe, Colorado sherrif's vehicle. When i bought it it pretty much looked like the pic minus it had stock bumpers. It still has the reflective tape all the way around and it has i think? a spotlight mount on top.

Any detail pic of how those hand lights on the A pillars are mounted?

I can take a picture when I get home. It's basically just a hole drilled right through with brackets front and back and a grommet. I'm about to take them out since they are completely stripped out. Checking their website they say that stripped out gears require a complete replacement of the entire light. Sure.

Many moons ago I looked at a '91 in gunmetal grey with that grille...vewy vewy sexy...sigh...passed on it and bought a '92 with IFS...moron...

I'll have to try to grab a few pixs when I go back to work, but a Volunteer Fire dept/ambulance corp in my precinct has a few lifted and modified trucks and abulances like that for beach rescues.
