towing really serious trailers

Can you expand on that? More info please. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

yo, yo, yo, I'm so like hard core!

I run like 8 ich solid chrome blocks with chrome plated 92 ford bronco springs with the stock u-joints and a (2) solid chrome drive shafts from a dodge fwd Neon joined together to keep the angle down. In the front I'm runnin like stock double axel trailer spings with traction bars to eliminate wheel hop and 14 in chrome blocks to match the front. I have no front drive shaft to keep the wieght down when I go wheelin which is like all the time, cus I got no Job, I also just got 26 inch wire wheels with 16 mountain bike tires and tubes in each tire to help me air down quicker. As for towing I usually get towed to my favorit 4 wheelin spots so I dont risk hurting it on the road. The tow rig is my homeboys 89 civic hatch back with a tunnel ramed 502 small block from a 98 dodge Neon. It was also a direct bolt on and his car is runnin like 5 second passes with out the nos, he's got like a 1100 hp shot. We just hook my trailer to his 15 inch in diameter exaust and the cops cant ever catch uscus we keep the neons on!

later I got to go chrome my dash, hood, lights, seat brackets. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Frank, all the research I have done has told me that lifted springs are the way to go. I will be running either the BDS or Tuff country EZ-rides pretty soon. Probably the BDS....

Well, I've experienced two of the three options myself (no shackle flip experience). Originally had blocks under the Blazer I just sold, and also had blocks under all four of my other K5's, and then put 4" lift springs under the Blazer a year and a half ago. My issue is I want the Burb to ride as well as it does today, which is truly excellent, and have the same towing capacity as it does today. Lift springs do not ride as well as stockers, from my K5 experience. It didn't ride bad (and they were Tuff Country 4" rear springs, with all poly bushings, etc) but it was not as good as stock with blocks. Axle wrap was gone after the spring lift and I would consider that the best thing about the all spring lift. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif That, and knowing that you no longer have (in my 79 K5's case) 22 year old springs/bolts/bushings, etc. Nice to have that 'all new from the frame down' peace of mind.

Think I'll start off with blocks in the rear, can get a set for free and only be out the U-bolts............then if I don't like the axle wrap (if I get any) I can always put lift springs in. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I've towed with 4" blocks, a cut through the hanger shackle flip and a 5 3/4" shackle flip on stock springs with my blazer and none of it felt a whole lot different pulling a large car on a double axle flatbed. I have however towed the same car with a flip and 57's and it was much squirlier than I'd like but mildly managable. I would probalby run lift springs though for a vehicle that performed more towing than wheeling.

I totally see your point. My problem is that I have saggy butt BAD! /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif For me, the best way to fix it is lifted springs. My rear springs are the originals. They are 28 years old! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif So anything should ride better than what is there. They seem to reach their max compression in a hurry. Makes for a kidney buster sometimes! /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif I do have another set of newer stock springs, but I am not sure if I want to go to all the trouble of swapping them out just to find they sag too. They guy who gave them to me said they didn't sag on his blazer, but I never saw them on his blazer personally so I don't know. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Serious trailers:
Really heavy
All the time
Crappy trailer (poor balance, etc, causing you to need a serious tow rig to handle them)

I have a echobit schackle flip and 2.5 inch sky jacker springs, in the front it's 6 inch suspension topped off by a 3 inch body lift /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

What about blocks and an Atron traction bar? And coat it with some QS&L Lickers sauce! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Dang, that IS funny..........Louisiana Lickers all the way, dude!

Ended up with a tapered block, no axle wrap problems (then again it is not being punished with a 406), no issues and the lift has been on for three months already. Gonna leave it as is for the forseeable future.........the Burb is not a wheeling machine, pretty much a camping/hunting/sand wheeler for the beach. /forums/images/graemlins/burb.gif

Here's a pic..........
