I realy dont know how to go about a project. I have the trucks listed below, Id like to throw the best parts together into one truck.

1)1983 chevy k20;6.2(bad), sm465, 208, 10b, 14bsf. Body damage and a little rust.
2)1985 gmc k5; no engine, sm465, 205, D60, 14bff. No title, frame is BAD shape.
3)1979 gmc c20;6.2(good runner),sm465(pto), 14bff. rusty cab floors, 2wd, cracked frame.

I also have these parts layin around: 3-2wd steering boxes 1-np203 transfer case(32spline) 3" lift springs, 4" lift ft springs/blocks and about 4 sets of add-a-leaves(nuff to do 4 axles) several small blocks and a few big blocks. also about 3 other gm trucks in various states of dispair.

What I want is the CC on a shorter frame, small purpose built flatbed, 1 tons, doubler, exo cage. You can imagine all the extras.

Components and what they need done:
D60- crossover, hydro assist, gears, detroit, rebuild kingins, bearings, 1410 yoke
14bff- gears, detroit, shave, disk brakes, bearings, 1410 yoke
SM465-rebuild as needed, change parts to fit doubler.
NP203- rebuild as needed, parts for doubler.
NP205- same as above, 1410 yokes.

opp. 1) would be strip the 83 down and begin the build from start to finish. This leaves me without a toy at all.

opp.2) change engine in the 83 with the one in 79, add lift, wheel as is. Build/rebuild components I want in final version. Swap it all in later.

opp. 3) fix 83 wheel as is, and use the c20 CC as base for build up. This saves cab mods to fit, BUT involves converting the frame to 4wd.

opp. 4) rebuild components as needed, and shop for a better project base.

How would you guys go about this?

Well...there seem to be damage or rust issues on all. You didn't say what the frame length (long bed or short) or cab config is on #'s 1 and 3.

Start with #1's frame, since it's not rusted or cracked. Repair the floors from #3 and mount it on frame #1. Yank the 205 from #2 and install it in #1. Add in one of the D60's and the shaved 14BFF. Then use the engine from #3 or build up one of your gasser blocks. Use a 2WD box for crossover... eBay the lift blocks--yesterday.

What's the inventory on the "other" GM trucks sitting around? Any good cabs or frames? Titles? Can you transfer a good vin plate to a decent body and run it?

I'd sell all the remaining parts for build/part money after you figure out what's useable and what you won't need for spares. Maybe use the 203 as a doubler on one of the 205's or sell it off...

You got a nice parts selection to start with. Wish I were you right about now.

Sell it all to me and go hiking and hug tree's...

or go with that Jon said, seems like that would be a good idea

Get one running (probably the K20) and wheel the piss out of it. Rebuild parts and swap them in as you have time and money. That way you still have a play toy that progresses slowly rather than a built truck in the making lying in pieces in your garage. You can wheel without the doubler and the one tons and then just thrown them on when your ready for the least down time. Down time sucks.

The "other" inventory: 75 chevy cab and chassis c30; lots of body damage and rust (not worth much body wize but has title) 454(LPG system), sm465, brownie 3speed, pto, d70 dually(realy narrow).
1994 GMC K2500; engine shot, new 4l60, 242?x-case, 14BSFmetric, 260k+ miles, IFS suspentions about shot, mild body damage.
1986 c10 longbed; 383, sm465, 10b, nothing wrong with this truck very clean and straight runs and drives, could use custom body work and paint.
assorted doors, fenders, radiators ect.

The 83K20 is RC long bed(#1), and the 79C20 is CC long bed(#3)

I have been thinking about this all night. I think the best bet would be as some have sugested get the 83 K20 running and beat it while I gather parts and rebuild components. However I still am not sure what to build. I just realized the 94 could be made into a good trail truck too, but I have wanted to build a CC for a long time.

option 2, wheel it and build up as you go and can afford

put the good 6.2 in the k20 wheel it while you rebuild a set of 1-tons and the doubler. Pull the crewcab body off and do any bodywork thats needed. Then when you are ready to swap, all the parts are ready to go and a couple weekends you will be ready to hit the rocks again

I have thought about it every witch way I can. I do have a 94 k2500 short bed ext cab. thats WORN OUT and the engine is bad. The trans (4L60E) is new. I could swap everything to that truck with a SAS. Pretty much just use the frame and body. Strip out all the electronic crap, interior cage, custom dash with real gauges, Rewire it to minimal needs ect. So theres another project platform I could use. That would mean I would just swap the 6.2 into the red 83 and wheel the weee out of it, OR sell it as a beater for fundage.

I guess I need to stop worring about what to build and just get started on the axles, doubler, trans & ect.

Oh yeah, here is what I really meant to say. Start with the K20, swap in the running 6.2 and wheel/drive it while you figure out the rest. Cherry pick the best stuff from your vast inventory and sell the rest to finance the rebuilding and modifying. Keep it running and swap in one major upgrade at a time as you get them done. That is what I would do. I don't personally like to deal with bad frames and rusty bodies if I can avoid it.

I wish I had your problem of too many parts to figure out what to do first. Of course I would be dead with my wife standing over my bloody corpse If I brough home another stray project car/truck.
