a few things ive got some questions about....

1. whats the thing on the back of my 6.2L diesel where a SBC dizzy would be. is it some sort of cam driven vacuum pump or something?

2. i thought my CDR was bad, but i had the engine running with the air cleaner off, and could see the white mist coming out of the side ports into the intake manifold. when i opened the oil fill tube the smoke was in the tube and not coming out into the intake anymore, when i put the cap back on the oil fill tube, the mist started coming back through the ports again. is it safe to say the CDR is working????

3. If the CDR is working, and ive got weeping seals (intake, valve covers, oil pan) and oil consumption problems, what else could be causing all that? bad rings? maybe its just time for a rebuild. it is a 1986 truck.

4. My brake master cylinder had fluid weeping from it, and the level was low. it looks like it has been going on for a while. I thought i had found the leak, and put newspaper under it, and then went in and held down the brake pedal, but no spotting. i got under the truck, and found the left rear brake drum was soaking wet, so im guessing my wheel cylinder blew out, but would that explain the fluid on the outside of the master cylinder???

on that note, i also finally removed all the shady wiring the previous owner had put in there. not really a big deal, but HUGE levels of peace of mind to have it all out and not haning down around the pedals anymore. or risking a short.

yes vacuum pump

yes most likley

most diesels have alot more blow-by than gas engines (high compression)

most likely hydro-boost seals are leaking (mstr. cyl. mounts to it)

1 yes vacuum pump
2 yes most likely working fine (although could be pulling too much air)
3 most diesels have way more blow-by than gas engines(high compression)
4 probably hydro-boost seals leaking(master cyl mounts to it)
Hope I was some help
