popping noise, torque converter?

i get a popping noise from the front section of the blazer when under load switching gears...im a noob and dont even know where to look and it only does it while im driving it. nothing different in the way it handles or shifts but just trying to catch a problem before it me. thanks

If you have an auto trans in it, it could be several things that can cause a popping sound - bad ujoints, cracked flexplate, loose torque convertor bolts, loose bell housing bolts, front leaf spring bushings, shock, etc.

I'd start with removing the trans dust cover and checking all 3 torque convertor to the flexplate bolts and check them for tightness. Then I'd check the 6 bell housing to block bolts and make sure they are tight.

Check the front motor mounts bolts and make sure they are tight and look for a broken motor mount too.

Then I'd check the driveshafts u bolts and flanges and make sure they are tight. Then check the front leaf spring bushing bolts, and then the front axle u bolts to verify that they are tight as well.

One of my pickups had a popping noise like that--found out it was the tranny/transfer case crossmember bolts,someone put 3/8" bolts in it when they should have been 7/16" ones...I even replaced the 3/8" ones with new 3/8" ones,thinking they were the right size,but a factory parts book showed 7/16" ones were correct..the new 3/8" bolts I put in soon stretched and loosened,and snapped when I went to tighten them,and I noticed the holes in the frame and crossmember were egged out--so I took a 1/2" drill bit and bored them out and put 1/2" bolts in it,and never heard that noise again,plus I swear it made the truck feel "stiffer",like it took a lot of flex out of the frame...

Yes i would go with motor or tranny mounts.
