Popping noise when I turn my wheels?

When you turn, especially with crossover the springs flex side to side a small amount. If your sliders are worn or thing or theres a large pit of bubble of rust leafs can make clunking noises when shifting one each other.

Get under her and have someone saw the wheel back and forth.

Not sure what you mean by sliders. The clip that holds the spring pack together?

Doesn't hold it together, per se, that's the center pin's job. It/they just keep the leaves from rotating. (Well, they might also keep the pack from over extending ... maybe...)

if you didn't actually pull the box off the frame, i wouldn't rule out the frame.. they general stay under, and around, the box feet for a long time before they rip the frame in 1/2...

Yes I pulled the steering box off to see if I needed the ORD frame fix when I bought the steering brace.

I have one that is barely crooked. When the girlfriend gets home I'll have to check if it moves when the wheel is turned.

*edit* of course now it won't make the noise. Damn!!

Had the same thing on the suburban. It may be the bushings are worn out on your sway bar (if you still have yours). I replaced mine with energy suspension greaseables no more problems.

Never even thought of that myself, but the ex brother in law was a race tech for nissan and diagnosed the problem. I guess when you turn the wheel moving or not it still preloads the bar a bit.

Have to check that out...my bushings are shot on the sway bar. Thanks...

The '77 GMC K2500 I had ,had more than one rivet sheared off that holds the crossmemners up front to the frame, the one the sway bar bolts to...someone replaced the rivets with bolts and then MIG welded the crossmember to the frame at the seam near the rivets....the truck had a "clunk" noise when you'd turn the steering wheel all the way to one side or the other still though...........................................................................................................................................................................................................I eventually discoverd someone put 3/8" bolts in the tranny crossmember, where 7/16" bolts should have been, and they were loose and half sheared ,when I tried tightening them, they all snapped in two!...I drilled the frame and crossmember out to 1/2" and put 1/2" bolts in there, and what a difference!..no more clunking noises, and the truck even felt "stiffer" driving it down the road.....
Another thing to check is the front leaf springs front hanger, they can come loose when the rivets get loose--also the front bushing in the front leaf spring ,often the "eye" of the spring where the bushing goes in can open up and let the bushing wallow around...a rotted radiator support can make noise while turning the wheel,so can a sheared spring center bolt..

This exact sound happened on my burb. It ended up being that the spring u-bolts were loose.
