my buddy has a 79 chevy 4x4 with a 350/th350/208. his truck keeps popping out of park and into reverse, what gives? anything i should look for?

Try adjusting the linkage at the bottom of the shifter arm.

what is the proper way to adjust?

All I ever do is loosen up the bolt on the bottom end of the arm, make sure the tranny is fully in park (even if you have to use a screwdriver or pliers to move the lever coming right out of the tranny) hold it in park and tighten the bolt back up.
