My buddy has an 89 K-5 and when off-roading and hits a bump it keeps knocking the transfer case back in two wheel, does anyone know what could be causing this

How do I adjust it?

With a few wrenches.

Just make it longer or shorter as required.

Also check the engine mounts and trans/x-fer case mount. If they are bad then it could also be happening.

What case is it NP-208?

What said above is right, except the shift forks within the case are rubber and start to where down making your case jump out of gear.

Adjust the linkage the best you can as mentioned.

We used to have to keep our stupid 208 in 4wd with a bungie cord!

Had the same problem on my '90. It ended up being those pos auto locking hubs. Replaced them with manual hubs and no problems since. just my .02

this one already has manual hubs so I am going to check the linkage and hopefully it will fix it

I have the same problem, but only in 4 hi, and reverse seems to do it more than bumps, I have a 241 and milemarker lockouts.
