im about to order a set of 5.13s for my truck (14bff) and i have heard that PORC (performance off road center) gears are made by yukon but their name isnt on the box. on their site they are $179.99 and all the other gears i find are $250 and up. so what does everyone think of PORC gears? or any other companies?

PORC gears are not Yukon gears. They repackage gears just like Yukon does. PORC/Yukon buy gears from whichever manufacturer (all here in the US, they usually buy them in bulk to get a better price), put them in their box and resell them.

I've used both Yukon and PORC gears and they've both been fine. For the record, I've received both Spicer and Richmond gears inside a Yukon/PORC box.

o ok, as long as they arent some cheap china gear, thanks a lot man! i think 5.13s will be a little improvement over 3.73s  time to order some gears!

For a 14bff is probably isn't as big of a deal since the gears are very large and meaty. I personally have Genuine Gears in my 14bff for about 7 yrs now with no problems but I know they are they crappy cheap gears. If it were a smaller axle that would be taking some heavy abuse I would advise you buy good gears from a good company.

The PORC rep told me his gears come out of the same plant as many of the other gears but that doesn't mean they come off the same line. Corvette's and Cavaliers probably come out of the same plant as each other but are obviously not quite the same.

Also check with the PORC rep on here, you might be able to get a better price from him on stuff since they are a vendor here.

I have PORC 4.88 gears in my 14BFF and no problems so far (I've gone around the block twice :D). I haven't been able to find less expensive gears or master install kits anywhere.

BTW, the Vette does have it's own line. The only other thing they build there is the XLR (on a different line). Ask me how I know. :D
