While trying to install my new rear disc brake system today I got a dose of 50 year old truck problems. The carrier bolt pin was sheared allowing the center pin to rotate and gall. I still haven't gotten the pin out but it's pretty clear I need a new carrier and gears. Are Yukon posi units good quality? I see some for sale on ebay for much less than jegs or summit. I'm thinking they're knock offs or stolen. Which posi carriers did you go with and why?

I am going to install an Eaton Detroit Truetrac Front posi in my d44, soonish. Does the truck get wheeled ? If technical type wheeling, then maybe a selectable locker. If just rockin around the hood and some back roads then the Yukon Duragrip should be adequate.

Yea it will be a mall crawler when it's done. I hope I can reuse the ring and pinion, I'll see what they look like when I plasma cut that center pin out tomorrow.

Do you have a truetrac in your rear?

Mine is a 14bff so G80. Before you do plasma cutting get a large drift punch and BMFH and try and drive the pin past the broken bolt.

I tried the sledge. It must have been really galled up. I just cut it out, it's a little messy in there now but it needs new everything anyway. After taking the carrier out I noticed some missing teeth.

I found a seller on ebay that has truetracs with ring and pinion and the install kit for $829 (with Elite R & P). The Yukon dura grip is +/- 400 online then the ring and pinion $320 and the install kit $ 140. That's around the same price. I like that there are no clutches on the truetracs. This is exactly how it happens, I hear some good advice then I'm going even further with my build. It's a sickness! Maybe I should start a go fund me page.

True trac is an incredible differential. Probably the best street truck diff that can do it all UNTIL one tire is off the ground.

If you’re never gonna do that then it’s gonna work for you. Unnoticeable until you need it and then it pulls both tires.

one tire off ground works if you apply brake. I had Auburns before and there is no comparison.

Thanks for the info. I'll look for a crush sleeve eliminator. I didn't even know they existed.
In a few weeks I'm gonna be ordering custom length driveshafts for my swap setup. I think I remember someone saying I may want to get a different yoke to accommodate a better u joint or one that can handle the steep angles better? Does any of that makes sense? I rather do it now while it's apart.

Surprisingly the only mechanical part on the truck not ready for the junkyard was the front dana 44 with 3.73s. The previous owner had no front driveshaft and no oil in the 44. The ring looks brand new. So I'll just stay with the 3.73s.

The set I think peps would be suggesting is cv at t case end, and aim the pinion at the t case out put.
You need a fixed flange at the t case, to use the Super duty style cv. Front super duty shafts can sometimes be installed whole, depending on lift t case diff set ups

Check my build out, I used the Detroit Truetrac in the rear, LOVE IT. Wish I'd used it in the front. It's quiet on the street. Crush sleeve eliminator is the way to go too I might add. It will save you potential headaches in the future. You'll find where I install all that in my build.
