Yep, very common upgrade. Had one in my '92. I was a bit less mechanical then and it took me a while to get it adjusted so it worked. Finally had a shop owner I know adjust it and it worked great after that.

Right on ;) Just wonderin if it made that big of a difference.

How exactly does it work? I mean i know it's cable operated but the prupose of it is to just enagage the front differential right??

If so would that give you a 2hi/2lo option if you were to go to 4hi/4lo with the shifter or am i just totally wrong on how this works

:dunno:

Yep. All it does is replace the heat or electrical engaged front actuator with a mechanical linkage. Once it's setup right it engages every time, all the time.

Yep.

Putting one in my Yukon when I swap a 5 speed and an np241 t-case in, make it all manual control.

Well, according to this thread it shouldn't be all that hard. But the Posi-lock definatley seems worth it.

yeah i read into that one but if i had a pretty good idea of what it entailed i'd be gettin the components just in case

Totally worth it Randy. Let me check if I have pics of the install, it only took me about 30 minutes.

looks like I forgot to take pics during the last half of the install.
One you change the actuator out for the rod and bushing, theres a pivot tower that bolts on to these 2 large bolts.

The cable (after being routed) attaches to the tower and a arm that pushes the rod in.

Its realy easy and the instructions are easy to follow.

I have been using it a lot while hunting. 1 I have the crappy high geared NV3500 and 2 my engine is worn and weak 230+k miles. So I put it in 4low and only engauge my front axle when I need to in order to save wear and tear on my front end components.

So do you happen to have any pics of where you installed it inside your truck?? Still kinda wonderin about that myself. :dunno:

I'm wanting it to look kinda like factory (which i know i won't get) but atleast make it where it looks like it belongs. Not just something else mounted to the bottom half of the dash

I just had mine mounted under the dash like they recommended. If I remember correctly the bracket is made to fit some pre-existing screws under the dash...I think...

That said I did see where someone modified the lower section of their dash so that the handle came right out of it. I believe they had also painted the handle so it matched the gray-black of all factory controls.

I got the ugly dash so it probably won't look right anyways  Just thought i might find a pic of someones done

You've got the same dash as my '92 and the truck I'm thinking of had. He just drilled a hole in the plastic and mounted it all behind there, stuck the handle through, and whalla, semi-sorta custom setup.

It comes with 2 brackets, one for 88-94 dash and one for 95 and up dash. I do not know how it would look on yours randy as mine is the newer dash. On mine however you CANNOT see the knob from the drivers seat or the passenger seat. Its tucked up under the dash pretty well, but still easy to reach.
