Possible dumb quick question

So with mid 2000's chevy silverados. we all know they use cv shafts..

so what happens if you remove the front cv shafts? do it technically become 2wd? and is it better fuel economy?

just thought of it..any ideas on what might happen if anything at all, or gained/lost?

wheel bearing falls apart when you try to roll forward. w/b held together with the axle shaft & nut to hold it in the w/b unit.

no better fuel mileage per say to realy see as the actuator on the pass side diff tube disc the guts.

and to get one in / out is not a easy job to do in say 5 min .

Had a friend blow a cv on his pickup, removed shaft and didnt install new cause it was too expensive. Sure didnt make it far and he had to add a wheel bearing and fender to his parts list haha

You will be driving around a 4x4 with no cv shafts. You most likely will not gain any mileage what so ever. And if you are like me you will probably forget and get in a situation you need 4 wheel drive. I broke my front driveshaft in the blazer and haven't fixed it yet, went down a known muddy road forgetting how bad it was and that I still had the front driveshaft out. Luckily I stayed out of the ditches.

You also take the chance of popping out a stub shaft and losing fluid in the front diff. They are held in by a clip on the end and sometimes they pop out very very easy, other times they wont come out for anything.

Is the vehicle getting poor mileage,worse than what it was, or are you just looking for more?

And as already answered I thought the wheel bearing would come apart but wasnt sure. lol

Naw just curious..

I have other problems to tend with....I need Knock sensors, my mileage is crap. maybe 10 miles per gallon because of the knock sensors, but can afford the parts to fix it..

not to mention my inspection is over due and it wont pass because of that and the airbag light
