Possible NP 205 issues

What could cause a 205 to have front output only in 4 low? A buddy of mine said that my rear tires weren't spinning yesterday and I don't really think I believe him. Everything seemed to work fine later. Maybe the linkage just wasn't locked in all the way?
 
<font color="green"> 205s can be finicky sometimes, mine has done this 3 times in 5 years, I just pull it back to 2 high then put it back in 4lo and it works fine. </font>
 
That's what I thought. It's working fine now. I have a suspician that the reason I broke my front axle u joint is that all the power was going to the front output and I was in 4 low, but I can't say that for sure.
 
My shift rails were a little worn and it would do the same to me from time to time.
 
Just pick up a set of shift rails and install em. No need for a rebuild unless yours has other problems.

I'll get RIGHT on that, as soon as I figure out why I'd remove that heavy mofo from my truck. Then, when I'm done figuring out how to wrestle that dirty whore out from under my truck, I'll just magically figure out how to tear it down.

Honestly, I've got no clue at all how it comes apart.
 
When you're ready I have a full writeup on how to rebuild it. It's the most simple job I've done to date. Well, other than replacing my belts. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
Really? All this time I've been afraid to take one apart, thinking needle bearings would go everywhere. I had an NP 208 that I saved just to practice on, but now I'm giving it away to my buddy for his Scout that has Chevy drivetrain.

If you do have a write up, I'll read it.

I was thinking the same thing. My SM 465 is WORN OUT big time, but the 205 never gave me trouble til Sunday. I was thinkin' maybe it wasn't in all the way too.
 
I would like to see the writeup also, that is going to be my next project. First time taking apart a transfer case.

did Josh find any more damage to the scout? or just the trans and case?
