Possibly the coolest duece and a half ever!!!

Very cool. I like this picture for some reason

That auction is awesome. That truck is the Most art deco vehicle I have ever seen in my life. What a collectable. Someone in Oregon would be insane not to bid. Great find, thanks for sharing.

"10,000 LBS FRONT PTO WINCH"

Lol my shortbed has a friggin 12,000lb winch on it. I know its a PTO but seriously come on.

Thing is badass though!

I am still drawn to the second one I posted, the first one is BAD@$$ (the coolest duece and a half I have ever seen, IMHO) but, the second one is just wow, so neat vintage! Did a little more digging, looks like it's one of only 138 made! Autocar U4144 oil servicing body (service body is gone of course). If it was in NC, I would have to convince my fiancee to let me buy it, $1k for a legitimate piece of history, wow!

Though, I'd be afraid to own it- I'd be afraid I might want to modify it, like put a Cummins and more modern drivetrain with custom frame, suspension, and axles and modern super singles for wheels and tires. :eek1: (Though I would keep all the stock stuff in storage and restore it all so that it could be returned to bone stock if desired!)

kdoske- some of the other versions of its basic chassis look even more art deco, with full side skirting on the ones that are designed to haul tanker trailers, they look freakin sweet!!! I sure hope somebody ends up buying it, it would be very depressing if the guy selling it scrapped it (like he says he will if it doesn't sell)!!!

zombie1969- I wish $67k was cheap to me!!!! :pimp:

Dang I hope that autocar finds a home.

If I had the money it would find a home. I have no desire to modify something like that. Its history and just awesome all on its own

See, that's where I would be so torn. It is so cool on its own but, my vision for it would be so cool too (at least to me, LOL!). I would definitely keep every original part and make sure that I did NOTHING to it that could not be undone. For the past IDK decade or so, I have really wanted to do a completely vintage looking re-power to a rig like this one. (The only visible cue to modernity would be the wheels and tires and they would just be for safety/convenience/money purposes (Modern wheels and tires are safer/I don't like messing with split ring wheels/modern stuff could probably be had cheaper than period correct stuff)). I would also make sure to choose a set that would complement the vintage look of the truck rather than being at odds with it.

But then, there's part of me that says (like you) all stock, all the way! It is such a sweet piece of history!!!

(See why I couldn't own a rig like it? My head would explode, LOL!)

Either way, we definitely agree on two things- that is one awesome rig!!! And that it needs to find a good home!!!

Somebody that's a member of a vintage military vehicle site (or sites) should post a link(s) to it, it'd be great to see it go to someone that will restore it!!! :thumb:

Always wanted to do something like that on a more common COE specifically the dodge ones

Something like this, keeping the old school wheels ( or ones that look like them) and a stock exterior. But putting some modern motor in one

I actually know where this one is!

Those bobbed dueces are awesome. I would DD one any day of the week, especially considering they do about the same on gas as my Jimmy (11-13 mpg highway), and with the original multifuel engine you can run them on diesel, gas, or about anything in between, as long as it burns. Steelsoldiers has some great info on how to bob them, just have to chop the frame and replace the bed with an M105 trailer bed.

Nearly 70k thats way too much for that rig. its cool but sh1t. they can be found or built alot cheaper. I've seen other CC ones and none near that expensive. As for the older one. I've always wanted to co an old conventional REO as a street rod. The one I've had my eye on looks similar to this one in the front
