Post your best mod\'s for under a $100 !

It always seems I can only scrounge up a spare $25 to a $100 every couple of weeks or months for Blazer mods. Im willing to bet im not the only one. Sooooooooooo....Post your best mods for the money and lets see what we come up with. Please state if the mods are for 1st gen, 2nd gen or universal /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Gut and jumper the voltage regulator so it still looks factory

Re: Post your best mod\'s for under a $100 !

If I was just starting out, I'd invest in this stuff...

(Universal)-

Manual hubs
CB radio
Set of offroad lights
Fire extinguisher and mounting brackets
Tranny cooler
Tow Strap
Steering box brace
Hi Lift

CB Radio -

I don't know about your buddies, but around here if you're not on the CB you miss out on MOST of what's going on during a trail run.

Fire Extinguisher -

Not a sexy mod, but neither is watching your truck burn to the ground (or someone else's) because nobody wanted to spend the $$$. I've personally used one two times already.....(both on someone else's rig) the trucks would have been lost otherwise.

Tow Strap -

Don't be a weenie and expect everyone else to bring one for you to borrow! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Get a BIG, STRONG one....when you get REALLY stuck you'll be glad you didn't cheap-out.

High-Lift Jack-

The single best thing you can carry with you, but it's useless unless you acutally have places on your truck that you can jack from (ask me how I know! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) It can also be used as a winch, fender uncrusher, prybar, etc......

Re: Post your best mod\'s for under a $100 !

Hey, I should be the expert at this one... since I am soo cheap! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Here goes:
Ford shock towers- although the shocks cost me around 200.00
'Zero Rate add a leaves'- I used 4 old overload springs I had sitting around, only 3/4" but cut em down and there ya go- Cost: $15.00 max.
shackle flip- used the front hanger off the rear of a 2wd 1/2 ton truck- cost: $50.00 for the new bushings
rear bumper- cut from a 8" chunk of channel I had laying around- cost: $20.00 for some cut off discs and welder wire
front bumper- see above- check out the pics in my post in this forum from today
front Dana44 and 14FF- paid $100.00 for a 3/4 truck, sold 300.00 worth of parts, kept the diffs and numerous other goodies- swap is happening soon- cost: made 200.00 towards the gears for it
rear disc brakes- used backing plates, front calipers and rotors from a D44, cost me: $200.00 for new stuff including bolts.
workin on a cheap version of a crossover steering setup.
workin on a self made twin stick setup
More to come!

Mike

Forgot my snorkel! Cost $40.00.

Bosch H4 halogen headlight conversion kit. You don't realize how poorly your sealed beams light up the road until you throw a set of the H4s into the grille.

Safety wise it was by far the best $100 I ever spent!!! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

CB Radio

Took the swaybar OFF completely. it's useless if you have stiff springs

Cut out chunk in pipe in front of mufflers, piece of pipe to slide over chunk, negating straight pipes- 8.99

Push button starter/ Ignition I/O switch- more amps to starter, much easier. true, you can turn the truck on without the key, but you cannot take it out of park
(i didn't know i couldn't get it out of park until the first night in the advance auto parking lot i turned the truck on and tried to take it out of park and it wouldn't move, i figured the hill i was on had put too much strain on the parking sprag and i tried with a friend for 45 minutes roling the truck up and back until it reached the other limit of the parking sprag then stomping the brake and trying to pull it out of park, and i almost broke the handle off when my friend yelled "you stupid bastard! the keys aren't in!!") - $25

Off road lights - $27

Strobe lights- actually, yes, i had to take someone to the hospital and the blue strobes got people out of my way FAST with the PA and i have no horn anymore, so it say get them, you may find yourself in that situation! $13 (more expensive if you want them to be visible during the day /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

Can of WD40/penetrating lube- duh

Shackle flip- in the process.

Re: Post your best mod\'s for under a $100 !

For $100 I was able to...

build a engine crossmember, build new shackles and spring mounts for the front and bolt in 57" fords front and back.

next mod would be my TBI, cost me $115(close enough to count)
that included the heads, intake, TB, gas tank and lines.

was that $100 for a ratchet, prybar and whatever other tools it may take to break into a truck, pop the hood and remove the engine?
