Winter time is near. I know you all have some big projects starting soon. My K5 went from a built 1/2 ton to a rebuilt 1 Ton over last winter. So, as a tradition I will plan another phase of the project.

Okay, 'tis that time of year to see what you are up to for the winter. BIGJ asked me the question "What are you doing this Winter" project-wize, and after talking to him and a few more friends, I came up with this list:

Boatsiding Project. I need to see how to get mine to cut through the water at 300 Plus MPH!

I need to remove the Doubler and tighten up the TH350 adaptor and replace the O-ring. It's leaking now and I'm afraid it might break the back of the Tranny off if it were loose.

Higher angle front CV shaft. If I could just win a High Angle, I would be set! If not, I have the parts to build my own version.

I would like to start on a 4 link rear suspension. With this, the plan is to bob the rear, install a fuel cell, go with the Drag Car tubs and hack the rear fender openings up to the body line. I will move the rear axle rearward to gain some departure angle and help with uphill climbs.

I will also remove the front inner fenders and hack the openings up to the body line.

The ride height will be lowered drasically to lower the CG and make the rig easier to get into!

I have 35 spline outers coming soon and also would like to upgrade to High Steer.

Lastly, I would like to try out the S&W family cage setup.

The overall project is to get a lower Center of Gravity, help Departure angle and overall Climb-ability. I will tighten the body up and give it a new coat of paint. Maybe in a different color!

Stay Tuned... I know theBigdaddyof2 has plans as does laketex and blueblazer62. Lets here your plans too!

For me, I have the 1 tons bought but they will most likely go in sometime after the first of the year.
Upgrade to 4 core radiator
New body mounts
57" springs
Rear shock relocation.
Nothing too crazy. Trying to get my new bike paid off before the spring

I plan to rebuild the motor to the tune of 500+ CI. ,cross-over steering hydro assit. steering , detroit locker up front and 5.13 gears.

getting my TH400 rebuilt, replacing flex plate, DOUBLER, new highangle rear shaft, and on board air.

Lets see.... I have quite a few projects.

Make a log bed for my wife.
Re-build to SBC's.
Get the Blazer drive shafts in.
Give my wife some funky butt lovin' /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif.
Square tube the rocker panels.
Herculine the Blazer interior.
Paint exterior.
Bend a cage and exhaust.
Give my wife some more attention. (Yes, she made me say that.) /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif
Do body work and paint a 1990 Dodge pick-up bed.
Paint a 1987 Jeep Cherokee.
Lift Capman's X.
Herculine a Suzuki Samarai.

I think that is about all I have planned for now. The list will grow and some things (usually my own projects /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif) will get put off until time permits.

assuming Im employed...

1) swap BDS front springs in to replace my ranchos
2) install some rocker knockers
3) install the rest of my smitty cage kit
4) re-mount my drivers seat
5) clean things up under the hood wrt vacuum lines, wiring etc.
6) make a custom marine grade vinyl or canvas thing that would go behind my front seats and essentially make my rig like a truck... basically a soft "top" that just enclosed the cab for when I want to run topless and dont want wind blowing rain in with me!

cant think of anything else at the moment...

j

-rear flip with 56s
-shock relocation
-f250 towers
-14 bolt install
-rear rubs
-half cab fab
-rocker panel rock slider combo install
-repair floor
-rear bumper
-maybe cage
-finish exhaust

minor stuff /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif, just that the k5 is in the garage with no rear wheel tubs, half the factory rear floor, and now rear axle.

I might narrow my front end some and cut the roof off. I also plan on moving the rear axle back 6" and tapering the rear into the frame rails. Roll cage is on the wish list as well as a front and rear exo cage of some kind. I also plan on stripping the inside and going with some racing seats. I would like to go to a custom dash but that might have to wait. I would also like to drop down the ride a little for the same reason that you want to.

So far:

The front is now narrow and lighter.
Electric fans are in.
Getting ready to strip the interior and cut off the roof.

Going to be a fun winter. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Did she make you say that too? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hopefully my wife's Chemotherapy will be done in Feb. Then Thrashfest will begin. Converting 76 CC from 2wd to 4wd. 468/Th400/203/205. RC60 front, 14 bolt rear, both w/5.13's. Hummer beadlocks, LOTS of tube work. See how it goes. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well as soon as I get out of the field, I got lots to start. The list looks something like this.
-Get the floor in my suburban line-x'd.
-Buy some 15-42/16.5 TSL's and T/R beadlocks.
-Go pick up my dana 60, tear it down, re-gear, install arb locker, 35 spline upgrade.
-Re-gear my 14 bolt and install detroit.
-Gather everything for hi steer crossover w/ hydro assist.

If any money is left after all the suspension and steering is finally finished, gonna buy the doubler.

My winter project is to spend as much time wheeling as possible with minimal changes or repairs to the buggy... Of course, this is winter in Phoenix... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Well, nothing as spectacular as you guys...

Build front and rear bumpers with integral receivers for a winch (if this doesn't get accomplished at least build a front receiver for under the front bumper)
Wire for winch at both front and rear with disconnects
Mount my air tank and finish plumbing
Rebuild that pesky NP208
Rebuild another SBC (it's tradition that every year I put another one in at spring break)
See about a waterproofing project... 4' just isn't deep enough. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

first is buying 2 more mastercraft seats cutting my cab off and making it a 4 seater so adding lots of cage to the rear to be similar to a blazer inside then building a sheet metal tub to enclose the people in the rear then go to a boat apholstery shop to have them make me a velcro soft top. when thats finished put new bed sides on it and shorten up the rear of the frame. mount the bed sides to the rear of the frame so it is narrowed quite a bit if I get that done early enough narrow up the front the same way but still use fenders so it still looks like a truck.

Build an entire K5 from a frame. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did I mention Im going to be putting an engine in soon
/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I'm starting another project with this:
fab4b8be.jpg

Not to sure how it will end up yet.

Not that I need another project to worry about. My Suburban needs the SM465 replaced, front end replaced or re-built, I have 3 motors in the shop waiting to be finished, 5 rigs needing motors, etc...

eventually get my 496 in and running........been at it since august so no big rush lol, except i wanna drive it

Rebuild a 14FF and swap it in...

Try to locate a D60 for a non-outlandish price.....like thats gonna happen

Locate an NP205

My mods are pretty tame compared to some! /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Axles are in....
Rims are on....
35" Goodyear MT/R's are mounted...
Zero Rates at all four corners...
Longer shocks all around...
Longer front brake hoses...
Find a good JY front d-shaft and rebuild it....
Resolve spongey rear brakes...
Detroit install....
etc etc....

/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
