Post your Winter projects here

Sorry guys, I have a huge bomb to drop.

As some of you may remember, I whaled a telephone pole pretty hard a year ago and bent the frame. We got it mostly straight but it's seen better days. It was a 31 year NY/NJ tub at the time of the pole and the crash did it in. The firewall is weak and moves so much the clutch is useless on anything but flat ground, the windsheild will not seal, and the bedsides are cracking at the floor. The frame was comprimised too. It twists more now even with the cage than without it before the crash. I tried to drive it on the highway this weekend (hasnt touched pavement since July) and it felt like it was going to fall apart /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

So my winter project is to take the drivetrain out of my K5 and build up a mint YJ I drove home last week for $800.

Good replies guys except.... CHRIS!!!

Cage
Removable Steps (ala DP_90K5)

John

-Tuned Port Injection
-crossover
-rear HD bumper
-cut front bumper more
-cut more sheetmetal
-cage hopefully
-wheel it, the AZ winter is the wheeling season

I have missed the last few wheeling seasons by being in Colorado, so now is the time. I have to get the TPI done very first thing then she should be ready to wheel.

T-case # 4 for the stepside, swap axles in the burb and fix the heater core , re-wire my trailer , zero rates shackle flip and new heads for the yellow truck and possibly start putting in my duece axles and full hydro steering., finish my blower motor and put it in the step side (and see if we can't go for t-case #5) put my Dana 60 that was slated for the yellow truck under my 86 K20 tow rig and put he current axles from the yellow truck under the "new" 69 chev and put the motor from the stepside in it . And I also have to move all these trucks and 3 more back to minnesota in in Mid March /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

But didn't you already have those /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Like Neil said, I have a few winter projects lined up. Most of them have to do with getting the truck more reliable and a better DD, with a couple geared toward off road ability. Assuming winter starting now (which it sure as hell feels like it...note my location history), here's my list. A lot of this stuff is going together in the next month or so.

Install BlueTorch rear diff cover which I already have
Mount radiator properly somehow...these straps work well but are mega ghetto!
Put in new j/y seats that I've had for a while now.
Get exhaust reworked with manifolds, quiet mufflers, and cat.
Remove 3" bodylift and install 1" ORD lift which i already have.
Install new Azkickin rockrod which is on its way shortly.
Rebuild kingpins and springs with kit i already have.
Upgrade to SS ext. brakelines.
Build new bumpers, sliders, and cage.

Get into woodworking a little bit.
Go to the range and shoot more.
Go on a snow run this winter. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

SWEET!!! Kinda Pricey though!!! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I had wondered where all your parts were dissapearing to! /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif Is this going to be your daily driver? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Looking real good and keep us posted. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

They got knocked off in Moab. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

This is my new project thanks to OL14BLZ. It's a great start to an offroad only trail rig - don't ya think? The Rockies are sitting in my shop thanks to SkulznBonz and one of his buds!
btw, I still have the red and white one that has all the goodies! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I really got the fever this weekend watching Sharpe play around in his. And I want to build something I am not worried about bashing!

My buddy (BigDummy89K5) and I work tag team on our trucks. This winter we're going to build front and rear bumpers and family cages for both trucks. We have the JD2, tube notcher and welder...we might as well them. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I also want to go crossover and hydro steer if I can this winter...that is more a money issue than anything else. What I want to avoid is having the truck sit for months like it did the last 6 months previous to BB '03.

The prep for BB '04 is starting already.../forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

That K5 I bought 2 years ago looked exactly the same as the day it was driven off the lot in 89. That was the most mint K5 I have ever seen north of Virginia which is why I bought it on the spot. It was my daily driver until last June when my Ram was delivered. That truck gave me absolutely no problems at all. I sold it to my dad's parts manager, he put a 3" Trailmaster lift and 33s on it and his wife drives it every day.

Neil, come up and take a look at my 71 if you want. It would be more money and work to keep the bedsides and firewall from falling over for another year or two than it would be to take everything and put it in the YJ. It's been a fun 5 years with that truck, but its too the point where I'm limping it around the woods all day and spending all week fixing it from the week before so I can wheel it the next weekend /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif downtime sucks

5" suspension lift..
new body mounts..possibly 3" body
hopefully some 3/4 tons

basicly it..not to much goin on right now..i would liek to do a 465/205 swap but i dont got the cash for that...and the truck is comin off the road soon..so thats were ill get the time to do this stuff

Sucks about the K5. At least you will end up with a good jeep (i.e. all chevy drivetrain!) /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

My winter project is what my summer project was /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
Getting the front end back together so I can drive it.

Wow!!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
49"s???
What lift are you plan'n on runnin'???
