I want to put a chip in my 89 K5
I have headers, and Gibson exhaust.
Any suggestions?
Also, since I changed my cat, last week, it smells like rotton eggs.

I have heard bad things about the chips. They don't do much for the pre '96 trucks because all they basically do is advance the timing and require you to run premium fuel.

Agreed. The only reason to "chip it" would be to account for hipo heads, different cam, and so on. A chip will help VERY little on a reasonably stock motor. In fact, I'm running a stock chip on a TBI 350 with Dart(?) heads, cam and many other moderate mods. Mine would probably "wake up" a bit with a chip, but I'm not motivated enough to spend the money on it right now.

To get it right, you hook the ECM up to a laptop with one of the many programs made for ECM "reading", and with that data, either have a company burn a chip for you, or get into PROM burning yourself.

Many variables to the EFI systems, typically any "quick fix" isn't a fix at all.

A chip wont do much.
You can gain more power by bumping up the base timing 4 degrees and installing an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. upping the FP to around 14 psi.
