Ok,

So, i know not many of you have power mirrors.

My 91 has the power mirror option, and the upper part of the head looks VERY similar to the 92-99 version.

The passenger side fold in joint is messed up, and it doesn't hold steady anymore. THe balls that lock into the detents for the closed and open position are all messed up.

Anyone know if i can disassemble a 92-99 mirror and steal the upper?

Really dont' want to but a whole new $129 assembly.

What do you think?

Thinking that since these power mirrors weren't offered til 88 or 89, it would have made sense that they would use parts from the newer style power mirrors.

The replacement is only $30-40 on ebay, so lets see what you guys think.

Will probably order one.

Where on eBay?

I found new ones on eBay for like $75-ish apiece.

The new body style mirrors are the same. The only trouble you might have is the length of the wiring for the new mirror head.

Later Astro vans also got the same mirror.

Cool! The current one is super short in the head, so if the other one is longer, no big deal.

Somewhere recently there was a writeup that showed how to use the aftermarket replacements meant for the newer body style. They were heated or had turn signals in them... or both, I really don't remember now.

Try harder to remember! This sounds cool.

I really want to add some sort of extendable towing mirror for the cool factor, but none seem to be out there that attach in the right way for me to be able to use them.

I think it was a link at another truck site. But basically, anything you find that applies to the '88-'98 mirror, you should be able to adapt.

The issue is the 88-98 mirror where it mounts to the truck is different than the 91 burb style. its the outer that is the same.

Yeah, that's what I meant. If you find those slide-on towing mirror extensions, they should work. If you find any replacement type of mirror (whether it has extra gizmos or not) that looks like the stock housing, it should work.
