What i'm looking to do for a rebuild is .030 over (or .040 if neccessary), mild rv style cam to get the power lower, edelbrock tbi intake, and cop car injectors, with the tbi bored out, and maybe a chip. Anyone have any idea what h/p and torque numbers might be? I haven't decided on swapping the heads to either vortec or other aftermarket, not sure it would be worth the money or not. I'm not looking for a powerhouse, just a bit more power than stock since i'm going to be geared low enough to get moving fine.

If your going that far then rethink the entire project around MPFI or TPI.

Problem in swapping lots of non-stock parts though is the availability of said parts. If I swap to an aftermarket mpfi then I am stuck getting replacement parts from that company. Keeping it mostly stock parts makes the availability of those parts easy to come by if it breaks far from home. A vortec swap would be nice, but then i'm in the same boat with getting replacements. most parts stores are going to have tbi parts in stock if it breaks far from home. I'm trying to keep it as simple and stock as possible with doing mainly internal engine mods. The chip is about the only part that wouldn't be available, but I can still carry an ecm to get me home.

Lots of options for engine performance / EFI ... and budget. My budget choice for making a 300 HP 350 ... Hmmm. Oh yeah ... I've done that.:D

Factory TPI roller camshaft, or the Police TBI roller camshaft conversion.
1.6 roller tip rocker arms.
9:1 compression or as close as possible. TBI heads are about 67cc.
Performance 3 angle valve grind on the TBI heads. Use "Z28" springs on the heads.
Modify the factory TBI intake to accept a 670 CFM throttle body (aka 454 throttle body) and install the 670 CFM throttle body with 350 injectors.
Do some port work / radius work on the the modified factory TBI. See picture.
Install 65 lb "Police Car" injectors.

Retire, put out to pasture, have a cold adult beverage at the "wake / funeral march" of the old '7747 ECM and use the new 8192 baud rate PCM used in 93 ~ 95 GM pickups. See thread http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=270253

Then program, re-program, then re-program the PROM chip until you finally get to show your Dodge 5.7 Hemi loving co-workers the tail lights of your hard work in the 1/8 mile track set up in the company parking lot!:D It also helps if you sneak the truck into 4WD Hi when the Dodge Hemi owner isn't looking.

Or you can bring me your vehicle and a wheel barrel full of money and you to can "Surprise" a Hemi!

You can use a complete GM TPI system or use a edlebrock victor MPFI intake with all GM TPI/MPFI parts...

No need to go with the expense of MPFI or TPI.
AS Dave said above. You can easily get to 300hp and 350 plus torque with the combo you listed. I would keep the TBI heads and have some mild porting done to them. Just gasket match and clean up the intake runners. Lots cheaper than a Vortec swap.
Build your engine to do everything under 5000 rpm.
Personaly i like 600 cfm TB ove a 670. But that is my preference because fuel economy is always an issue with me.
Roller cam is always the best option. But if you are on a budget a regular mild performance/torque HT cam will get you to those numbers too.

I thought the stock "truck" TBI heads on the LO5 are 76cc??

GM used 2 diferent TBI heads on LO5 engines.
The light duty 2 bolt 350 in 1/2 ton, Blazers, Subs and some of the light duty 3/4 ton got 193 heads. 193s have 64 cc combuston chambers. Which gave the engine a compression ratio of aprox 9.2 to one. 210 HP 300 torque.
The HD 4 bolt TBI 350 in HD 3/4 ton over 8600gvw and up trucks used 191 heads with the 76cc chambers.
8.2 to one aprox CR. 195HP 300 TQ.
