As the title says i snaged some power seat from an 07 silverado. Power foward backward.
The seats themselves work when tested directly to a battery. (I keep an old battery to test elec motors)
Question is do i wired directly to the battery orange to positive black to negative.
The seats only have 2 wires.
Ill take pics later of the seat instal
Any help would be appreciated

They are normally hot with the key off. I have a 20 amp fuse for mine.

Thanks frankin5
So i should be good eunnung straight from the battery with an inline fuse
I have 12 gauge wire on hand
Any chance of posting pics of yours by chance

I am in the middle of redoing all my interior. My wiring for the seats goes thru the firewall to a fuse block on the drivers inner fender. It is fed by a fused #6 from a junction block on firewall that feeds the main factory fuse panel under dash.

Thank you
Ill try tomorrow flr now i have them set so that i can drive to work
I have the junction box i can feed off of.
As for the ground wire a good ground wire or to the negative side of the bat
Sorry for the million questions
Just dont feel like letting the wires burn up underneath thw carpet

Most, if not all, metal parts of your truck should be ground. So attaching the ground wire to something like the seat bracket will suffice.

So i went ahead an tried grounding the black wire to a solid chasis ground, for the hot i tapped into the junction block of the fire wall and i got nada.
I verified power the the junction box an the test light lit up.
I attached the test tight to the ground wire an hit thw switch on the seat, test light came on. The only way I've been abke to get the seats to work is to ground the seat directly to the negative sode of the battery.
Driver seat has 3 wires one orange, black and black with a white stripe.
Pasdenger has just the orange and solid black.
Am i missing a step or am i stuck grounding at the battery an tapping into the junction block of the fire wall.
Im useing 12gauge wire for both an have an inline 40 amp fuse of the hot.

It there a ground cable from battery to frame, battery to engine, ground from engine to firewall. You need all of them in good working condition.

I will double check all the ground cables
Im using 2/0 cables.
Hopefully something simple im over looking

If you have power thru the switch, the body should easily complete the circuit. I can touch any part inside the cab and complete a circuit. The body have to ground locations. One at the core support and one off back of engine to cab.

sorry was not planning on having the same pictures post so large an multiples, dam sea monkeys.
here is a pic of my ground wire engine to frame and then to the negative side of the batt.
I will add more ground straps as per Frankin5's wisdom. hopefully then I can get my new to me seats all wired up.
the other pic is the wires from the driver side seat.
I will figure out how to add pics that are not so large for next post.

memo

That black/white strip should be a seat belt warning lite. Also make sure all grounds are to clean bare metal.

Thank you for the reply, I will omit that one, since I don't have the buzzer for it, ill run out an get at least 2 more ground straps an go from there

The exhaust manifold stud might not be the best ground spot for that brown wire...front of the engine or intake ,alternator bracket would be better..it may get hot enough to fry the insulation there, and the heat may affect the stud's ability to be a good conductor..

The frame and ground cable ends should be shined up with a grinder where the ground cables bolt to it,then you can put paint or grease over them after tightening them back up so it wont rust .

Thanks for all the replies and help.
I ended up running a ground strap from the battery to the inside fender as well as one from the trans tunnel to the rear of the block.
I did relocate the (brown) ground wire from the exhaust manifold to the alt bracket.
I ran an inline fuse from the junction block to the seat. An wala they both work.
After staring at thw circa 1976 glass style fuses i convinced myself to re work the enrire thing in the future.
That way i know whats new an what is mot.
Thanks again for all the help

Right on! :waytogo:
And sorry for correcting you, but it’s one of my pet peeves. It’s voilà (pronounced vwola), not wala. It’s French for ‘there you are’. Damn high school French classes and Americanisms. :doah:
I’m sure it bothers some of the Canucks too.
