Trying to hook up all the power/crossover steering and come to find out my 2wd box is the old flare style. I’ve searched but can’t really find what I’m looking for.

Seems I can buy adapters to make some hoses out of AN line, but what is the size/thread count I need? There are 2 different size on the pump itself.

tube thread pitches.png SAE flare thread pitch chart..

You can change the bung in the P/S pump to the old style flare and use a factory hose off an early truck with flared SAE fittings..

One thing that sucks about having the old style 36-spline box is that you cannot install a u-joint style steering shaft that eliminates the rag joint style steering coupler. The u-joint style steering shafts only fit the newer style 30-spline steering box.

I must have an odd ball box because I have the XJ shaft on my box now.

I tried like hell to find a shaft that fit an old 36-spline box I had on my truck, and could not find one, so I had to remove that box and install a 30-spline one.

I was able to use a safari/express van shaft on my flared box.

That is what I got on my truck (pictured). When I ordered it, I tried to test fit it, and it was too small, so I had to change boxes. Everybody keeps saying they exist, yet F*CK if I could find one.

They’re must a difference with some models or years. I bought one of eBay and it fit fine.

I am not sure how that is possible. GM stopped using the Saginaw a 36-spline steering box back in 1976, and went to the Saginaw 30-spline steering box. The Chevy express van was first manufactured some 20-years later in 1995 when GM was still only using the Saginaw 30-spline steering boxes.
