I believe that you need to put some tape on the splined section of the shaft to protect the seal as you are installing it.
Not sure if the directions say that.
OK,I found my old thread regarding pitman shaft seal replacement..
Scroll to page 3,post #48 shows the tool I made..and how I did it..
I'll try to post the photos and a link here..let's see if I can figure out how..
I used this conduit fitting I had,but a hunk of pipe the right OD or even a socket would probably work just as well..
I used a carriage bolt because it had full length threads,and I had the long coupler nut hanging around,a regular nut should work OK..
I used a C-clamp to clamp a block of wood to the leaf spring,for the head of the bolt to dig into so it wouldn't want to slip as I tightened the nut..had to hold the bolt still with vise grips near the head..
