hey! a question on power steering hoses. i am converting to a serpentine setup on a smallblock. have xover steering with the older steering box but has the o-ring fittings. the paperwork included in the serpentine kit mentions metric fittings and adapters. what year did gm go to the metric fittings, and will my pressure hose bolt right up or do i need a custom hose? thanks!!

81 or 82 is when the switch was made and it sounds like you'll need to have a hose made.

You are going to have to make a custom hose. I did the the same thing. I will save your A** when your in the woods and make 2 of them and carry a spare. If this hose ever busts in the boonies no one will have it. Don't ask how I know.

1980 there was a split between 1st design and 2nd design. The 1st design was flare fittings and the 2nd design is O-ring fittings.

Regardless, can't he simply unscrew the fitting in the back of his old pump and put it on the new pump?

Yes, but i'm not fully understanding what his problem is.

The older steering box had flare fittings.

the box i have is the newer o-ring type. the info with the pulley set was vague at best! so i assume early 80s through 90s or even present are the same threads?

You are correct!! Just did this on mine. If you are using the pwer steering pump from a newer model just pull the fitting and put it in the back of the new pump and you are done. I went from a 70 pump to a 93 and it worked.

This is what I did on mine putting a box from an 89 fullsize 2WD onto my 73... just grab the fitting on the box and you are set!
