I just finished my LS truck motor swap in my jimmy and I used the pump that was on the 5.3. At low rpm it has no power steering at all. I have to rev the motor up to get it to steer. Any ideas? Pump is brand new, lines are brand new

Was pump new or remanufactured?
If reman I think pump clearances are sloppy, and doesn't build pressure till everything gets warm

Don't later model P/S pumps have a pressure sensor ?--I'm not sure if they would affect the steering assist or if they just send a signal to the ECM for whatever reason ..not up to speed on anything after the square body trucks really..

my 97 has a weird sensor on the column which alters the pressure but I don't think the "LS" rigs had them.

I "think" the sensor just kicks up the idle speed a tad when the steering wheel is turned rapidly--I could be wrong though..

Never heard of it. I just replaced my PS pump on my 02 Tahoe last month and there was nothing special about it.
