OK... the power steering pump just...broke off the engine, all three mounts are broken clean. It didn't happen all at once, and I can spin the pump with my fingers, so it didn't sieze. Looks like metal fatigue on the bracket. I confess that I didn't install the two-part back brace on the pump when I replaced it 30,000 ago. I only had one of the pieces... Was that the problem? I expect an ugly time hunting the bracket down at a junk yard. I hope I don't have to get the old one rewelded. I searched the forum and nobody ever reported this before. Engine is original with 178,000, mostly freeway. Any advice before I tear it all apart on Saturday?

I have a complete set of brackets and a pump for $30 shipped (it's not worth my time to pull the pulley off of the pump to seperate them). Most likely, the metal fatigue was caused due to the missing bracket.

for what it's worth, mine has broken twice. i cleaned her up, and re welded it and called it good. :(

Yeah... I thought about that.. The old bracket could be saved I gues. The slide notch for the belt tension is totally mangled and I'd have to recreate it.. For $30, it's not worth the time. I do't weld and my buddy who does is laid up after having his appendix removed. I alreadypulled the pully off thepump and I'm just waiting for the bracke to arrive from Kenny. I post some before/after pictures.

I recieved your MO and will get everything packed up to go out tomorrow... should be able to get it to you by Saturday.
