I'm setting up my power steering system and I'm starting with a clean slate.

I'm looking at THIS style pump with remote reservoir and hydroboost.

My question is what pressure should I run. I've seen these pumps for sale with anywhere from 850 psi to 1600 psi. Right now, I'm just planning on running hydroboost, but i'll probably eventually do hydro-assist. I'm guessing it's a tossup between having the highest pressure possible versus blowing out seals.

Check about 1/5 of the way down here, the stock pumps in these trucks make [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]2.4 to 3.5 gallons per minute (gpm) flow and 1100-1450 psi pressure.

I run hydro assist and initially did the pressure mods to the stock pump and it was ok. Then I had the pump warrantied and put the modified pressure/flow valve into the new pump and immediately blew the seals out of the steering box. I put a stock pressure/flow valve back in it and the steering power is better than it ever was, a good, new pump is the key. I run a 1.5" ram and 42's with a locker in the front, turns them easier than stock.

Just food for thought, the stock pumps are pretty good and I believe that PSC just rebuilds/modifies stock pumps.

cheep direct fit bolt up for ya.

go find a chevy van. thay have hydro boost on some. so make sure.

then take the pump / remote resivor from it and bolt it in your truck.

there ya go now you have hydroboost pump / remote resivor / and its bolt in . best of all its cheep.

and if you wish for peace of mind go get a reman pump and swap it in the housing before you start the install.

Well, for what I'm doing I'm fabing up the brackets, etc. to go on my 4-71 Detroit, so nothing is really bolt on. I get to start with any pump I want.
