I went to drive the blazer yesterday, and the steering pump was squealing alittle, and i was having trouble turning. I checked the pump fluid, lines and everything looked good, checked the belt it was tight. my steering pump is probably as old as the truck is, who knows. do you think its time for a new pump, or could it be something else. also is it worth to buy a new stock pump, or buy a hydro assist kit. pump, and hydro ram. my ps box is tapped for hydro..

Get under the hood and turn the steering shaft by hand while it's running. When it squeals look at the pullie on the pump. Does it stop spinning then spins in a cycle like that while under stress? Thats a loose belt.
