I put hydroboost on my 1st gen a month or 2 ago and I love it, but the power steering pump seems to whine all the time. the fluid is topped off every time I check, but I'm wondering if a detached reservoir would give it more fluid to work with and stop the whining.

it's not bad, but slightly annoying. any ideas? (other than just buying a louder stereo  )

Mine only makes noise every once in a while (maxed out, or occasionally at random for a second). Did you put a hydroboost pump on it or did you add the T-fitting? I'm thinking of adding a reservoir style just to make it easier to check the fluid level. Freakin tall-a$$ truck:whistle::haha:

I ended up putting a hydroboost pump on in the end, so no T-fitting. I guess it's possible I got a bad pump, or just need to get used to a little louder noise.

I hear ya on the fluid check thing!! I might go reservoir just for that benefit!

I'm planning (somewhere down the line) for hydro-assist too, so I may just end up going with the PSC kit. Save myself some time and get their super-output pump while I'm at it. Though that's not really my style, I tend to like to piece things together to "save money" and it takes 6x as long and after 50 trips to the parts store I come out $10 ahead:doah:

My pump was used, got it off my boss' truck with the 6.2 btw, not sure if that made any difference:dunno:

this is just a guess but could it be a hole that is on the pressure side of ur pump/lines that is small,so its making a "whistling" effect when the fluid gets pushed through it?

I doubt it. I cleaned the snot out of everything around there before I bolted in the new parts so I'm pretty sure I'd see it if there was a leak.

also, it sounds like the pump is laboring... kinda like when you turn the steering wheel all the way to lock and put pressure on the wheel, but it does it all the time.

sorry,I just realized that was really bad wording for my question, what I ment was do u think theres a passage that is on the pressure side of the pump/lines that is small,so the fluid getting forced through a small passage would make a sound? like a bottle neck type of situation for the fluid

ah. I see what you're saying now. when I get a chance I'll look over my hose routing real close and see if maybe I have too hard of a bend somewhere that would maybe cause that to happen.
