happens both ways, new pump and belt, fairly new PSC box. Never happened till I changed the pump but cant figure it out. Only happens at full lock. Any help?

I'd consider that normal...most vehicles will squeal the belt at full lock if you hold it against the stops (and its not good to do that)..unless the belt it too lose, but then you'd get "lumpy" steering when you turn the wheel rapidly usually..

Your old pump may have been too weak to make the belt slip..a crude test to see if the P/S pump is putting out good pressure is to squeeze the pressure hose shut with padded plier jaws--if the pump stops turning and the belt squeals, its putting out enough pressure for good power assist..a "bad" pump will just moan or make a grindy noise...

What kind of shape is your pulley in?

I had one, new pump, new factory box tapped for hydro assist, and new belt. Squealed at full lock and any time the front tires got in a bind (hydro assist so it would push through but squealed). Tightened belt, same deal. Turns out the press on pulley was spinning on the pump shaft under a load. Normal steering it didn't happen but when full lock or hard turning (in rocks or something) it would spin on the shaft a little and squeal.

Didn't figure out what it was till I pulled it all apart and the pump shaft was galled.
