The passenger side window on my 1987 Jimmy will no longer roll down. When I press the switch up or down I get a clunk from the window motor each time I press it but the window does not move. Does this sound like a bad motor or a regulator issue?

Take some time to get ALL the old gunk off the regulator and window and inner door channels. Mine was all sticky. I had to use brake cleaner, wire brushes, and some scrapers.

I used white lithium grease and a little 3 in 1 oil in some pivot spots to relube it. It's so much faster now!

If your window was NOT stuck in the up position, clamp the regulator arm to the big gear before you remove the motor so you don't get robo chopped by the up assist spring. I used a 2 inch c-clamp and it was plenty...also useful to hold it "down" while cleaning.

I replaced the motor/regulator today. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. The only issue I had was the plastic rollers on the new regulator were a little thicker than the old ones so the window went down real slow and wouldn't go up at all unless I helped it with my hand because the rollers were binding in the channels. I ended up taking it back apart and putting the new motor on the old regulator and it works great now.

It sounds like the regulator. the widow could have pulled out of the regulator chanel. Take the door panel off and attempt to operate the window, then you can see what is happening. IMHO Ripcord
