Powerglide to 203 or 205

It would have to be a divorced case since the PG doesn't have a removable tail housing.

The Glides do have a removeable tailhousing(Shorty Glide in a Dragster), 1st gear would be awfully high, but they are really strong.

The PG's used in drag cars are not a factory case. Those are all aftermarket heavy duty race cases and are EXTRA short.

Yeah, but I have run stock aluminum cases and removed the tailshaft housings to make shorty's out of them. Still strong, but not like the dedenbear cases.

i've never ever seen a factory gm PG w/removable tailhousing...i do not believe they even made them..i've seen them w/2 big holes in bellhousing on the 1's behind 6's....i actually posted about this less than a month ago..asking what to get a divorced 205 out of, so i could run a PG in my comp mud truck.

show me a pic, b/c if they did make 1, i need it & make a custom adaptor

All the pic's I've found all show removable tailhousing. Not sure I am missing .

Actually,Powerglides had one of the lowest first gear ratios in an automatic,1:76 to one, till they came out with the 700R4's..but they were put in cars with 3.08 or higher gears,so they felt like slugs as far as acceleration..though they are a durable tranny,I dont see any advantage to having only two speeds,"low" and "drive (1:1 ratio)..not in a 4x4 anyway..I cant recall if they had a removeable tail or not--the divorced transfer case would be easier to hook up,IMO--use a old Rockwell or NP 205 from an IHC ,etc..
