i am starting a build now for my truck to be able to run up giant sand dunes...

i was thinking would the powergilde be a good option for transmission? and would i be able to run 4wd if i have it installed??

has anyone installed it on a k5?

powerglide would be ok, it will bolt up behind the motor, you would need to modify your crossmember most likely.

What makes you want to use a powerglide in place of a TH-350?

gear ratio's!!!

i should be getting a th400 soon... i am also wanting to modify my 454 engine to give more torque

dude, a big block and a TH 400 will give you all the power and gearing you need for running sand

Some guys with more experience than me can point you in the right direction for motor upgrades, it is not hard to unleash lots of power out of the 454

Some of the early glides were air cooled, so no plumbing issues. Mid 60s glides had a rear pump, so you could actually push start them.

IMO, you need at least 800 hp to get the benifets of a powerglide. And if you run a glide, you run one of these these transfer cases from Profab or a chain drive.

Here a picture of this blazer.
