powerstroke in 72 gm truck

it is tight and i still have more work ahead of me and alot of cleaning on the motor, but it does fit and i did sit the cab down over and there are clearence issues with the transmission touching the firewall. and the turbo touches the firewall. so i lifted the cab up 3 inches and it all clears. so you could cut into the firewall, but if its a lifted truck you could do a body lift. im going to add a 2x3 box tube across the top of the frame and raise all body mounts up to match. and adding the box tube and a nice new crossmember under the motor and i think it should have plenty of stregnth. but i first need to finish my 2wd shorty, got my new 468 going in soon. so i need to get my frame blasted and reassembled first.

why not just go with the 3" body lift if it'll work? its cheap, and will get the job done WAY easier than adding material or moving body mounts.

i would like to add the box aove the frame for the purpose to raise the body to help clear fpr the diesel, but to also add stregnth for the heavy diesel.

I've tossed the idea of a PSD around for my '91 crew. Wasn't sure if the frame rails could take the engine or not.

The 78-79 axle is preferable for the stock suspension. For the newer axle you could accomodate it by outboarding the front springs.

A Doubler, or a divorced 205, would let you keep a GM axle if you choose.

well i just scored up custom dana 70 built as a passenger side diff and a dana 80 rear. i have a friend that is going to change over my front axle to a driver side diff for the ford transfer case. my stock front is only a 44 3/4 ton front and 14 bolt ff rear. just hope i can figure out what wiring i dont need, so i clean up this motor and for a little cleaner install.

Does the D80 have a speed sensor? I think all the PSD's had one in the rear axle. Maybe you can eliminate it witha 5-spd, but I doubt it with the auto.

Dunno if I'd bother reworking an axle to get the pumpkin on the other side. It could be fixed with a different - or extra- transfer case.
