Got a new front axle but it has a powertrax in it. everything looks brand new inside and the backlash is tits so i plan on just swappin it in and runnin it. My question is even though the powertrax system doesnt use clutches is there a special lubricant i have to use. Just wanna be sure before i put the screws to it. :D

BTW, the richmond website wont tell you **** :doah:

No, it's just regular gear oil. The additives are just to keep clutches from chattering on LSDs. This sounds like you're getting some things done, huh Ace?:D

Regular gear lube. I use 75-140 in my powertrax.
Is yous a powertrax? or lockrite? I have ran both on the front. Powertrax is by far a better locker and work great on the front. Lockrite will bang and pop a bit. If you have a lockrite they work best with 75 -140 gear oil. Less noise and smoother operation.

You can download the complete manuals at richmond gear http://www.richmondgear.com/installmanuals.html
You may need the manual if you ever have to disassemble one and install.

It looks like business is perking up due to tax returns so i got a couple good commissions. I also got the bushings for my lift kit and found a sway bar disco kit in the classifieds. Hoping to have everything in and working by late next week. I want to go to Cleghorn on the 10th :D

Thanx for the info. BTW its a powertrax, cant complain either way i am getting a complete axle with 4.10s a locker and warn premiums for $300 :D:D:D

Nice. I paid that more than that for my 8.8" Powertrax NoSlip about 5 years ago!

I ran regular Mobil 1 synthetic 75w85 (95?) in my rear axle and it worked just fine.

'97 Explorer 8.8" with disc brakes in my '96 Ranger. Worked great. Those axles weren't super great under a full size (unless you reinforced the tubes) but under a small truck or Jeep they're killer. Every part of the axle was bigger than a 10 bolt. First time I pulled the cover and saw how thick the ring gear was I was shocked compared to my old 10 bolts.

You got a good deal. powertrax alone is around $400. You will like it in the front. They are smooth and torque steer is not bad either. Best full locker I have ever ran in the front.

I just really need to show up my brothers 95 bronco :doah:. Its stock as hell but my k5 was out of commission (3.08s front/ 4.11s rear) so now all of the new people we wheel with think the Bronco is the perfect wheeler . I plan on showing up and setting the story straight on the 10th. It will be his stock 95 bronco on 32's vs. my 85 k5 with 3.5" of lift, traction aids front and rear, and 33s. Oops forgot he put a leveling kit on it and some rancho 5000s but i should still blow him out of the water.

dont get to full of your self just yet or you will blow it. just have fun and let it ride. then if you need to show off for some reason it will shine. :wink1:

What he said.

I went wheeling a few times with the Ranger and a bunch of other RBV enthusiasts. One time we had a B2 that was welded in the rear and had a Lock Right in the front, my Ranger, a guy with a plain ol' limited slip in his TTB Ranger and a guy with a similar IFS Ranger. Another guy had a Jeep Cherokee with the fancy transfer case and all that. I went everywhere the B2 guy went and had to tow the other three several times. It was kickass.

It doesn't. Notice he's putting a front axle in with matching ratios.

i dont know exactly why but i have my own theories, GM always did a slight mix match (i.e. 3.07/3.08 fr/rr). This is why i am doing a 4.10 front and 4.11 rear.

I've always heard 4.11 and 4.10 used interchangeably. Are the number of teeth on the gears actually different? Cause if they're the same, the ratios should be same, correct?

Edit: I got curious, so I started Googling. I found this on another forum.

Somewhere between a 4.10 and 4.11 and manufactuers either round up or down just to make it easier. The gears are the same.

That's what I've always heard.
