Ok I got a problem here, Just bought a powertrax no slip part number 9207053000 for my 79 suburban 2500 with a 14 bolt 10.5 ring gear. I take off wheels, unbolt axles and slide them out. Pull diff cover off, mark baring caps remove them, take out the carrier, mark the ring gear and case where it comes apart, remove it and split the case. I took out the spider gears and such, when I go to put the first powertrax coupler in, it will not fit! It will not go through the space provided on the carrier, its not the hub that will not fit its the diameter of the coupler will not fit through the opening. I called one guy from powertrax JOHN was usless as a 3 dollar bill, he just said I dont know mabey your truck has a different rear end. Its a 14 bolt with a 10.5. I slid the coupler on a axel shaft and it is 30 spline, if I had the 9.5 they are 33 spline. I used a mic and on the powertrax coupler just the out side peice it said 4 inch and 193 thousandths. Called another guy at Richmond and he said that the OD should be 4 inches and 200 thous. It should of gone in with no problem, Or is the OD the widest point on the whole unit including the center caps?

Never mind, after I took out the spyder gears there were clutchs behind the side gears, This means its a limited slip diff. Anyone interested in a powetrrax no slip unit? Im an idiot! New never installed, make an offer or it goes on ebay

But then you would have to set up the gears. Would have to take it to a shop. how much better would it be with a powertrax no slip then limited slip?

You don't have to do all of the setup just the backlash, and setting the backlash on a FF 14 bolt is very easy. You would need to buy/borrow a dial indicator with some kind of base to hold it.

How many cross shafts are in the carrier? If your Carrier has 3 cross shafts you most likely have a Gov lock. It is not a limited slip. It is a true locker. Gov locks have a bad rap in smaller axles but in 14B they are pretty strong.

If I jack up the rear end of the truck, put in drive at a idle I can stop one wheel at a time, If I try (with a helper) to stop both wheels it can not happen. with engine off if you spin one wheel foward the other will go backwards. Is the cross shaft the pin going through the spyder gears? I dont remember exactly but I think it was like a t then after I took out the spyder gears there was another gear and behind that were some clutch discs with metal caps on the ends. I had them all out and had to re assemble it to put it back togather. So if it is a limited slip or gov lock, I dont think I want to go through all that trouble of finding an open carrier to put the locker in and do it all over. I dont think a powertrax would be all that much different. I can put that money towards some 35s
