Pre 1988 Suburan question

OK so the snorkel will come out where the current over flow bottle is on Big Red. A guy I know has an over flow bottle on his truck off an older burb that mounts to the rad support under the air intake hose.

Does any one know what year they were mounted that way?

My 83 had one mounted below. Not sure if it was factory or not though.
