Prefered engine heads?

whats everybody runnin/ prefer? i *hope* to build a 383 soon for my senior project adn im unsure as to what direction i should go. ive heard good things about the vortec heads. but im tryin to weigh all my options thanks guys.

it really depends on what you are looking to get out of the engine, vortecs can be a cheap option if you are not going to run a huge cam and not to much compression, if you are looking for a big cam and compression you will want to look in to aluminum heads

im lookin into the comp cams extreme torque 4x4 series cams. im hoping to have a lower 9:1ish compression so i can try to run 87 or 89 octane

the big think with the vortec heads is the max lift is around .500 i belive if you want more than that you will need to spend some money to get the spring pockets machined so you can run a aftermarket spring allowing you to run larger lift cams, for that amount of compression the vortecs should be good for you
