Well not being able to drive it has lit a fire under me to get the engine swapped.

Couple of questions. It it worth it to swap to a j code intake. There is one on ebay that's 55 bucks. Unless it's gonna make a big difference I don't wanna mess with it.

I am putting new gaskets on well some of em. Gonna do a spray paint rebuild. Swap the serpentine belt stuff on, put a brand new block heater in, new larger exhaust, mandrel bent turbo crossover.

Oh swap my glow plugs in, they are working fine. I think that's about it really I don't have money for big ticket items like injectors right now. Might not even be able to swing the intake manifold swap. Gonna do what I can though.

With a turbo forcing the air in a C code.intake should be just fine...

Ditto.

Is your turbo a Banks unit or something else?

Banks kit. :D

The 6.5 full motor I have is going in the crew cab. Its odd the jimmy is gonna be Baileys in 5 years. I want her to have the the option of AC. I also kind of want to force myself into getting a vintage air kit for the crew cab

It makes a helluva difference. A diesel without a turbo is just an oil pump.

In WI (especially Up North), I prolly wouldn't have a pressing need for one either. It pretty flat, the roads aren't fast, and the elevation is pretty close to sea level. I got around just fine with a beat 305 when I lived back there.

Out here, I wouldn't have a diesel without a turbo - elevation, long steep grades, and 80MPH highways are the norm. It's just altogether different.

6300 ft at my house. Going to may parent you go from around 6 to around 9 3 times. Then 80 mph speed limit interstate. But there aren't many flat roads. And lots of chances to gain elevation.
Turbo needed

I read through this several times before I felt like I understood what you were trying to say.

Nailed it.

I enjoy visiting out there, and that is probably what will prompt me to install my turbo setup eventually (so I can visit with the truck and enjoy some mountain trails).

The hx35 on my 6.2 made a world of difference. Only problem is it made a small blow by problem into a massive one. I just bought a na 6.5 from a p30 in hopes it will be a good foundation.

Because of you I went out and pulled the intake off my na 6.5 so I am ready to pull the pump and injectors to have them checked/rebuilt.

Even with turbo, I would go j code. C code intake is a huge restriction.

Unless someone wants to send me one that's out for now.

I don't have much cash to spend on this. Only buying necessary parts.

I have just been cleaning it up.

Carve out the EGR crap on the intake...at least remove the EGR itself. Cheap, gonna flow better for free. :waytogo:

Understandable. It is something that you should plan on doing in the future when possible.
