Price Check?

I know I spent about $800 to re-gear to 5.38's using yukon gears and install kits. The US Gear that are in that kit are good gears but IDK about the install kits (brand?).

It seems like a great deal...

Try PORC. They have cheap package deals. I believe that a d60/14 combo is one that they do that for.

I ordered a d30hp/d44 4.88 gear+bearing kit from them. I ended up with Yukon gears and Timken bearings for (iirc) $360. Way cheaper than anywhere else.

I checked 599.99 at PORC. Not bad but list only allows for thick gears on the 14bolt to be used on the smaller carrier? Not sure I like that. I will at some point run a detroit locker in rear. Will there be any issues with it? I would assume not, but want to make sure.

The 14 bolt Detroit doesn't replace the carrier because the stock one is so stout so the Detroit doesn't care what gears you use.

Nothing wrong with thick gears, pretty par for the course with a 14 bolt.

I thought "thick" was the only 5.38 gears available for a 14b. That might have changed. There isn't a strength difference. The gears are just thicker. A Detroit doesn't care which carrier it is either on a 14b

Good to know. That makes things easier. Learn something new every night here...
