Just out of curiosity, those of you that have done GEN III swaps, what do you realistically have into it?

I think I will have around 4000 into mine all said and done. Granted I went overkill and bought stuff that isn't needed, and could be trimmed down about a grand on my prices. I picked somethings up cheap and other things expensive.

This is for a cammed 6.0

The biggest factor is where you get your motor. If you go craigslist, you can save. If you go bd turn key, or something like that, it gets pricy quick.

This is the quick spreadsheet i put together, when i ended up with my putting a crate 350 in. Had i had more time, i wish i had done the LS, but i did mine in a long weekend. Would not have pulled that off with an LS swap.

Now, many of these parts may not be needed, or can be had cheaper, but this was my rough guess at what it would actually cost me, on the conservative side.

I'm in the middle of mine right now. I got my 6.0 with all accessories and harness for 1350. I bought all new gauges which by far was my biggest expense outside the engine itself.

I'm not quite done, but I'm probably going to end up at about $2500.

In 2008 money the 8.1L install cost around $2300. That does not count the cost of the engine itself (the engine came to me at n/c) but it does include the cost to fix the broken warranty 8.1L engine. In today’s money it is going to cost about $800 more to do an 8.1L into the Suburban even with another no cost engine. As Stomis said, it is all about how far you go and if you’re paying someone else’s labor to do the work for you. The integration bits and pieces are what get expensive and usually out pace the cost of the engine itself. I prefer to go with brand new stand-alone harnesses rather than reworked donor truck harnesses. A new harness and ECM tune alone is an easy $1000. The only other labor I can’t do myself is the exhaust which lately exhaust work is getting stupid expensive. The last BB swap I did cost over $800 for new tip to tail 2.5” pipe work and all of the exhaust hangers broke within a few months. I need to find a new exhaust shop!

The dmax swap in my Tahoe was about the same as an LSx. The initial purchase price and repairs were considerably more though. I paid 7k for the donor truck, spent 2k on injectors, 2k on a new clutch / flywheel and another 2k or so on the install. 6 months later I had to replace the engine at the cost of 2500. I sold the remains of the truck for 2k so I'm still at over 13k for the dmax swap.
