I've got a 383 stroker in my mud bog truck took it out to have it torn down check and any issues addressed before something happened. The machine shop called and said hone and rering. And reassemble is looking around 2k... Seems to be high to me as I do most of my own work. Any insight? Am I getting hosed? Motor has 25 passes and pocibly 30 hours...

A simple rings, bearings, gaskets rebuild should be less than $200.....if all your parts are reusable and your familiar with engine building.
You can buy a flex-hone

HERE if the cylinders are in good shape already...

Only thing that wasn't done was the heads, bought them ready to go. But it was little over $2k for complete lower end rebuild. Including cam/lifters, intake, oil pump, balancing and assembly....

I shouldn't be a half that for a freshening up on any motor...

Id like to know how the got $2000

Are you running top shelf bearings, Molly rings maybe they are doing a billet timing chain and pump.

There is a shop local and his freshen ups are that high. But mainy for the race engines. But the block goes in hot tank, all valaves come out. New springs, and.seals, rob bolts...bla.bla... and of course very good parts go.back it.

I think it would be.better to.compare Apples to Apple's, a professional job vs a garage rering and bearing arent the same thing. Yet in the end, the engine has been freshened.

And btw, $2k. For a stock 350...yes thats high, but a race engine. Easy to hit that
