So im getting my blazer ready for paint and ive heard that I made a mistake of using rustoleum filler primer. I didnt have an air compressor at the time im picking up a sweet 60 gallon upright this week. Im going to spray on urethane base clear topcoat. My question is do I really have to strip off all the primer I rattle canned on. I already started sanding the quarters (cause there easier) I also did the door jambs hinges inside of doors. I was thinking of using chemical stripper but im curious if it will hurt the bondo I put on (its really dyna lite polyester filler) please any advice will be appreciated. Thank you!

sorry, missed this...

ummm, I'm not gonna say it can't be done... but I am unfortunately gonna say I highly recommend against it.... catalyzed, and uncatalyzed resins don't play well together often... enamel is soooooo soft compared to a 2 part product... the fresher the primer is, the more it has the potential to be an issue also..

at a minimum, I would put a sealer over it before paint.. but, if your gonna invest in a 2 part paint, it's highly advisable to invest in a gal of 2 part primer and take the majority, if not all that rattle can off..

Thanks ryoken I was thinking scuff it rea good with some 220 and shoot some epoxy primer over it the paint?

if the first couple primer coats lay out ok and doesn't cringe it, it should be fine..

I will say your ultimate longterm durability probably wont be as good, but it should last a while... say a 10 yr paint job as opposed to a 20.. :pimp:

Thank you I was hoping you would chime in by the looks of your k5 you know your paint. You made me feel so much better.

no prob... I just try to help you guys play the odds a bit better..

thats all bodywork is, minimizing risk.... the lower and lower you can make the percentage of possible failure, the better and better the work comes out...

any questions, drop me a pm..
