I have a front clip that is fairly straight that I'm sanding down whith 120 grit and I was thinking I'll just leave it primer for a while. can anybody recommend me a decent primer that kills rust and waterproof? also I shot 1 fender already with rust oleum , and the finish product feels rough . kind of gritty. Is this normal? thanks in advance

i like dupont's nason 2k urethane primer... about as cheap as it gets for a catalyzed primer.... if your talking cheap rusto, $30 a gallon, non catalyzed primer, i have no idea...

as to the rough rusto, you more than likely where spraying WAY to thick... it'll need to be thinned with mineral spirits till it drips off a paint stick in 5 or 6 seconds...

So the dupont...does it have a rust inhibitor?and do I have to ~mess~ with it or is it ready to go out of the can?i was talkin to a buddy and he says an epoxy primer wld be best as far as rain and moisture.idk. I dont have any experience with body work lol.do you have a pn for the stuff? Also the stuff I used was out of a spray can.lol mineral spirits?

I just need it to do 2 things. Stop rust and be waterproof. I know im going against the grain on the waterproofing, because primer is made to act like a sponge

not urethanes and epoxy's, they can stay outside indefinitely, tho the primer will begin to chalk at some point.. your thinking of lacquer primers....

I prefer a urethane such as dupont 2k to an epoxy.. it's a qrt of hardener to a gal of primer.. about $110 a kit at a supply store... but a catalyzed epoxy they sell will be fine too durability-wise...

Ok cool thanks man! Ill go with dupont! can I break the liquid up in sections since im doing a panel at a time? can you also define ~ supply store ~?:thumb:

sure, just make sure to keep the batches proportioned properly and seal the unused portions well..

autobody supply store....

the nason 2k primer we use is a 4:1 mix 4 parts primer and 1 part activator we use the ezy mix cups has all the mix ratios on it just pick it all up at any supply house that does automotive paints also just as Ryoken said.. good luck

Thanks all! I went with a urathane but its not the nason.other stuff was cheaper. Ill be starting from the front and just working my way back. Ill post up pics!
