I'm new to this forum, and have tried to check in various forums archives to avoid asking oncwe again that dreaded question, but either could find a match, or got different answers...So I'll ask again...Just forgive me :)

I've got a 1979 K10 Chevy Cheyenne shortbed with a 4 inch lift and 33X12.5 R15 Mud King tires, which clear my front fenders plenty, so you see me coming.... Can I put 35X12.5 R15 tires, same brand, without any danger of hitting the front fenders corners with the wheels turned and suspension compressed???? I don't want to trim my fenders, and can't afford roght now a new 6 inch lift kit to replace the 4 inch kit.

I must say that I don't drive the truck off-road, this is a show truck that's used for shows and local driving. To go off roading I used my old 1981 K-1500 Sierra Classic beater...

Also, when I bought the truck, it had a TH350 with a NP203 converted to part time with manual hubs. Since I been rebuilding the truck sincve the day I bought it, I didn't play with the transfer case.... Can someone tell me the shift pattern of a NP203 converted to part time? Also, are there different shift pattern depending of the part time kit brand? I guess not, but I'm askin' just in case.

Finally, is there a better way than an other to engage four wheel drive with a part time kit? With the tranny on park, and applying brakes? Or can I just put it on park or neutral and engage 4 Hi and 4 Low????

I'm used to NP208 and late model Jeep transfer cases...

Thanks for your help!

if you subscribe you'd know just how many times it has been asked...you can search. it's well worth it.

Should be able to clear the 35s if you don't plan on wheeling. If they get close, get a zero rate. It will bolt to the spring pack, lift it 1", and can move it back or forward 1". I would go for the forward, that would move the tire 1" farther from hitting the fender.

I only used the 203 once, but IIRC if you have the part time kit, in regular 4 high, (there is a 4 lok in there) that is 2wd??? Not 100% sure.

For shifting to 4 high, should be able to do it in any gear. 4 low will require park or nuetral....

shift pattern for 203 is
4low
2low
neutral
2hi
4hi

And you can change transfer case gears by putting the trans. in neutral.

tires should clear. i have four inch lift and 3 inch body but the body lift went on after the tires were on. no rubbing. my tires are 35-14.50x15

Thanks for the info. My big concern was with sterring at full lock and suspension compressed. I can't imagine my tires rubbing on my brand bew body work! To ensure not having any problem, would it be safer to go to a 6 inch suspension lift?

As I told you this is a show truck that sees only pavement. But I'm really concerned about those front fenders....

If this is a show truck why are you worried about tires hitting on compressed suspension? You will NEVER compress the suspension just driving on pavement.

my truck has 35" tires and 4 " suspension and 2 " body. With the sway bar hooked up they never rubbed, when I unhooked the sway bar, they rub on the rear corners with the suspension compressed.

Thanks for your help! I'll install my new tires in the coming days. Worst case I'll install longer bump stops....)

I was wooried of compressing the suspension Scott on a bad hole in the street....We have terrible roads in eastern Canada....Shocks don't last long here....
